Maine Takes Another Step Closer To Recreational Marijuana Legalization

A referendum proposal to legalize marijuana for recreational use in the state of Maine has obtained the required amount of signatures for it to appear on the November ballot.

The referendum, if approved, would legalize the use of recreational marijuana for adults over the age of 21. Adults would be allowed to posses up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana and the state of Maine would regulate and tax the substance.

Medical marijuana has been legal in the state of Maine since 1999, supporters hope that making it legal for recreational use will take the power from the drug dealers on the streets.

If approved, Maine will join several other states such as Colorado, Washington, Oregon and Alaska who have legalized marijuana for recreational use.
